65E max RPM
 

What's the maximum RPM that the 4t65E is capable of in stock form? Reason I ask is because the redline on my engine is nearly 7,000 RPM but it shifts at 6,400 RPM everytime, and the redline on the tach is set for 6,500 RPM as well. I'm thinking that the 65E isn't "supposed" to shift over 6,400 RPM maybe? Torque management is insane though.. It cuts back power severely just before, during, and a second after it shifts. It's annoying.

It's not really a max RPM...

I'd highly doubt you'd ever get that engine to spin up to the point of cavitating that trans pump.

interesting. I figure it was just a trans limitation because of how much power gets cut off before a WOT shift. It's still pulling really hard when it shifts at 6,400 RPM, and if dyno charts are examined, the HP rating plateaus at 6,300-6,500 RPM where the graph cuts off. It doesn't start going down at all at those RPM"s, so I can only assume she still has quite a bit of breath left in her after 6,400 RPM. It sure seems dissapointed to shift at 6,400.. That, I can tell you. ;)

Those 65s are much better at high rpm shifting than the 60s. They have more vanes in the pump. I've read about people reving them up to 7k in turbo cars before.

Custom and I were chatting about this last night and I will definetely agree, for those of you with a stock or relatively stock L36, when youre approaching the 5900 rev limiter, it definetely feels like the car is gasping for breath at times...but with the 3.5 it just feels like it wants to keep going and like the engine goes "wtf?!" when it shifts gears.

I also notice some of the torque management quirks he was talking about, I just never really knew what to attribute them too...so im guessing a high performance PCM would really wake these cars up eh?

I think a chip with 6500rpm shift points would help wake up that engine quite well.

The PCM is locked and GM won't release the code. :cry: There is zero aftermarket PCM wise for any N* engine. Guess GM doesn't want any 'secrets' about their most expensive, technologically advanced engines getting out. :?

Sounds like the motor is held back... Shame on GM
