Default How to start mods and CAI on a SSEi?

I have a totally stock (except for the stereo ) 2000 Bonnie SSEi. i am looking into the list of mods to perform . . . insert list here. One of the mods i am really looking hard at is the limited slip diff and the MPS to start. where should i go from there? and for the second part - is a CAI really needed on a supercharged engine? For the money i would rather invest in 1.90 rockers!

Welcome to the Club, your going to get lots of advice here for a 2k ssei
This is an easy car to mod but the $$$ can add up quick.

Cold air intake is one of the first mods to make. Some (me included) only have a drop in k&n and gutted air box. There is a resonator tube that mellows the supercharger and restricts air flow. More air more power, simple.

Next would be a pulley swap, get a hub kit so you can change pulley sizes as you mod. This will give you more boost which in turn will make more power, cheap too $129 online.

With all that extra air you need to open the exhaust, headers or ported manifolds combined with a high flow cat, pricey but worth the money.

Now your ready for high ratio rockers and a custom burn PCM, spendy as well.

At any point you can add the LSD and any suspension work you want?
Look for Rogues Mods as well as SilverBullet, TaylorD and caminator2k, and have modding your ride

All depends on how much money you want to spend, and how deep you want to go. Your very first mods should be: some sort of better air intake, whether that be a CAI or an FWI, or even an open cone, a 3.4 pulley preferably on an MPS, a heat range cooler spark plug of your choice (no platinums, try copper), and a 180 thermostate. This should give you a good 30hp increase for about 200 dollars (not a bad start eh?). From there I would look at rockers or a cam (again depending on the depth you plan to mod) as well as some ported mannies, or headers. You will probably also want to look at an aftermarket PCM to get the most out of your mods.

Default PCM reprogramming

When should i go with the PCM? Is it programmable by me or is it a one time burn at the shop and resend if i make more mods? i would think i need to wait until i have made almost all my mods before changing it. buying chips every mod would be ridiculous!

Wait until you have rockers or a cam, which should be after intake, 3.4 pulley and exhaust mods

The stock PCM will learn your smaller mods, CAI. 3.4 ect. But once you get Rockers or cam, get a PCM to take advantage of the higher RPM power band.

Go ahead and get a PCM (recommend the INTENSE Standard) after you get an intake, wires, plugs, 180 stat, and 3.4" pulley. You could probably get away with that same PCM once you install rockers, but may want an autotap so you can take advantage of that power (a 3.3" pulley may be possible at this point too...with autotap).

What is an "autotap" and FWI?

i am getting the 3.4 pulley first installed at intense on Monday.

for the CAI i like the looks of the wizard cai. what is the word on the street about the perfomance differences between the different products availiable?

Are you local to Columbus? An autotap is a device used in conjuction with a palm pilot or laptop to scan your cars sensors while its running. www.autotap.com and FWI is a fenderwell intake. You put the filter in the fenderwell isolating it from the engine heat.

i'm in the Dayton area.

i guess i will have to take a closer look under the hood to see how a FWI would fit. Are there any cuts or mods to do a FWI and how does it compare to the normal CAI?
