I saw that you can buy 3800 Series III Supercharged Crate engines.

In the event that I was to smoke my motor due to high mileage in a Series I 94' Bonneville, would it be possible to use the Series III crate motor for replacement?

Or is there a ton of other things needed to switch engines?

Also, just so you know. It is RARE to see one of our engines blow up, unless it was not taken care of properly and beat on. We really don't see many of them here unless the intake gaskets go out and that is mostly on the series II engines. Of course, it is possible to have them leak on our engines also

Series 3 crate motor is gonna cost you a ton of money. Not only that, but you would also have to include a transmission with it, which will about double the price. You'll also need the PCM and a bunch of wiring.

On the other hand, for the cost of the S3 crate motor, you can call Ed Morad and probably get a used Series 2 */C motor, trans, and all harnesses/electronics.

On the Mopar side of life almost everything performance wise is a crate swap. Less worries about the engine builder.

OK, so I have built some old school classics in the Mopar/Ford/Chevy cars. Pretty easy stuff to do.

This supercharged front wheel drive stuff is completely different. Everything from suspension to the motor is a completely different world.

I was thinking of grabbing a used 3800 S1 and doing a stand build so that my original motor would be intact. However, I have read these motors have limitations in the higher RPM ranges.

So, how hard is it to swap to a S2 motor for a 94 Bonneville?
Will this require a trans also?

Mods for my current S1 for performance upgrades looks like a CAI, Dual exhaust, a CPM, and a slightly smaller blower pulley, and possibly a fuel pump.

But after these mods are done is there any real benefit that will be noticeable in daily driving?

I ask this because in a v8 classic like my 390cid I can boost hp to the 500 range quickly. Then beef up the tranny and switch the rear end and the ford is in the 11'*.

I live by Gateway racetrack and there are a lot of guys running cars in the 10'*.

I don't want to do that with a Bonneville, but I would like to hit 100 mph fast. Right now the car runs to about 70mph pretty quick, then dies off on the top end. You just leave your foot in it and slowly creep up on the 100 mph marker.

I always have a knock around street car of some kind. However, the last one gets like 8mpg. So, with gas at ridiculous prices I have been leaning to something like this Bonnie to play with but not destroy.

Having a family and an expensive aquarium hobby, I have priced myself out of the car scene and it sucks! I have owned over 80 cars and I am only 40 yrs old this year. Cars are a part of me. Cash, however isn't. This Bonneville could be done very nicely with motor/paint for $10k over a 2 year period. That isn't too unreasonable. It is when I got to pay $20k to get a car and then another $30k to customize/build/restore the car that it is not realistic. It is just getting too expensive.

So, an S2 upgrade seems like it would offer the driving experience I am looking for. (0-100mph range)
What are your thoughts, just so I know what to think about/plan for? I like this car and would just like a little more performance from it.

Look at my sig. That was almost completely hand-built. I just swapped motors this weekend, but only because of someone else'* carelessness with octane.

Sounds to me like you need to come to grips with FWD drivetrain limitations first, then perhaps toss us your budget, and we can come up with some ideas.
