Lets the coolant flow, and obviously coolant is an engines best and worst friend.

It delays heat soak which can keep temps lower in mild stop and go traffic but if your stuck in traffic it dosen't do mutch.

However, if you lower your fan turn on points it should help keep the temps down in traffic as well, but it requires computer programming so not so practical for what it does unless you are getting something else done as well.

The best part about adding a cooler stat is this. Our transmissions have a fluid cooler inside our radiator. By adding a cooler t-stat not only do you open the coolant sooner for the motor but the trans fluid will be about the same temp as the coolant fluid and therefore will run cooler as well.
