Default weight reduction tips for racing (seats)

When prepping your car for race day you want to remove as much weight as possible. In this write up we will be removing the passenger seat and the rear seat.

Front seat.
Start with the front seat all the way back, then with a Phillips screwdriver remove the two plastic caps.

Then with a 15mm wrench remove the two nuts holding the tracks down.

Now move the seat all the way forward and with a Phillips screwdriver remove the two plastic covers from the rail ends.

Now take a 13mm wrench and remove the four nuts holding the tracks down.

Remove the plastic cover from the left side rail and use a T50 torx socket to remove the anchor bolt.

The seat is now loose. But before you move it look underneath and locate the wires. You will need to unplug 3 sets of wires and one air line.

You can now lift the seat out the front passenger door.

Now move back to remove the rear seat.

Place your hand along the rear corner and lift up.

Do this on both sides and the seat will pop up.

Now push the seat back and up and it will pop off the clips.

There is one of these clips on each side.

Now to remove the back of the seat go in to the trunk and remove the clips on each side of the access door.

There is a mount on each side of the seat, remove these nuts.

Now with a 18mm socket remove the anchor nuts for the seat belts. There will be two of them.

You then remove the seat by lifting up and out.

How much weight have we removed?
Passenger seat, 97-03, 42 pounds, 52 pounds for 04+
Lower rear seat cushion, 9 pounds
Upper cushion, 17 pounds

That'* a total of 68-78 pounds removed.

Another tip is to remove the spare tire and jack. This is a 35 pounds reduction.
