a whining noise in overdrive
 

I have a 95 olds achieve 2.3L quad 4

I just had the transmission filter changed and the transmission flushed as well as the radiator and coolant system new wheel hub

The car runs and drives great, no gears seem to be slipping, but when the car get into the Last gear while in OD it makes a whining or whirring sound only when I step on the gas, it seems to correspond with the RPM's and ideas?

If you gently let go of the accelerator and get back on it(unlock the torque converter) does the noise go away?

Have you checked the fluid level since they "flushed" the trans?

The levels are good

And when I let go of the gas and step on it again the noise is still there

If it seems to correspond to the engine RPM, then we need to eliminate other possibilities also. Such as the powersteering pump, waterpump and alternator. But, considering the recent work done, I'm suspecting the noise is coming from the trans. I can't say I have ever heard a trans make a noise after the fluid was flushed out. Yet I'm curious as to why they "flushed" it when they already dropped the pan and replaced the filter?? You don't need to flush it if the pan is dropped.

I did the filter and had them flush it just to get the crappy fluid out.

But it seems to becoming from the driver side of the car the trans is there and the PS pump is there also

so if it coming from the trans, is that a bad sign?

Did the noise start right after the fluid was flushed?

It was before the fluid was flushed and after. I also thought changing the fluid will stop the noise but it did not

Do you know if they actually flushed the transmission? Most places these days will perform a fluid exchange and call it a flush.

The difference between the two is that a flush is done with a powerful external pump that forces fluid through your transmission at higher-than-expected pressures, while a fluid exchange uses the transmission's internal pump to safely push the old fluid out and suck the new fluid in.

Whining noise at highway speeds are often two things, wheel bearings and CV axle. You already replaced your wheel bearings/hubs, so maybe you want to look at your CV axle.

Do a little test to see if this is engine, drive train or transmission related. Drive your car at 2,000 RPM in overdrive and note the level of the whining noise. Does it go away when you accelerate? Does it go away when you let you foot off the gas?

Now repeat all that while driving your car at 2,000 RPM in 3rd gear.

Now repeat one more time driving your car at the same speed as you were doing when the car was at 2,000 RPM and in overdrive, but this time do it in 3rd gear. RPM will be highter, but the road speed will be the same as the first test.

This will tell us if the problem is road speed related (CV joint?), gear related (transmission problem?) or RPM related (engine?).
