What happens in a recall?
I was looking around when I ran into a recall.
File Date 2/29/2000 Mfr. Involved GENERAL MOTORS CORP. NHTSA Campaign # 00V057000 Mfr. Campaign # 00023 Component Affected SEAT BELTS:FRONT:WEBBING # Vehicles Affected 85253 Defect VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE REAR SHOULDER BELT(S) DO NOT RETRACT. A RETAINER COULD SEPARATE FROM A REAR SEAT SHOULDER BELT RETRACTOR WHICH RESULTS IN THE RETRACTOR RETURN SPRING BECOMING DISENGAGED. Consequence IN A CRASH, AN OCCUPANT MAY RECEIVE MORE SEVERE INJURIES IF THERE IS EXCESSIVE SLACK IN THE SHOULDER BELT. Corrective Action DEALERS WILL INSPECT BOTH REAR SHOULDER BELT RETRACTORS FOR CORRECT FUNCTION AND INSTALL A SPRING COVER RETAINING STRAP TO EACH RETRACTOR. IF A RETRACTOR DOES NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY, IT WILL BE REPLACED. My question is one of my rear seat belts does not retract, Can I take this to a dealership to be fixed for free :? ? |
It sure sounds like it. Bring a copy of the recall notice with you and mention it when you make the appt.

I think if you register with GM ownerlink they will have the info

I think if it's a safety thing, they'll still do it. I think I remember Padgett on the Reatta board said he had something done on his Fiero in '96 at the dealer and it wasn't a problem
