temp guage on dash does not work.
 

when my grandfather baught the car new the temp gauge never worked. it still doesnt work today and id like to try and fix it. it does not move at all. is there a sensor or something that i should change to try and make it work? or does the whole speedo cluster need to be replaced.

nah, just replace the temp sender, not the whole cluster...very doubtful the gage died...pretty uncommon..

i wish i could help yah to tell yah where the temp sender is, but i have never replaced one on my car so..yeah..i will try to find out tho...

is that the cts thats right underneeth the throttle body if so ive replaced that. I heard theres a sensor either in the rear of the engine somewhere that gives the temp or under the thermostat or in the radiator. im not sure which one is supposed to show the tempature on the guage cluster. thats the one i need to replace

I do not know the VIN code stuff, but if you have a 3800 series ii engine (it will say on the plastic engine cover) Then this will apply to your car -

In front of the engine is where that sender is. There is this foil-like tube that serves as a heat shield. It is close to the thermostat housing, almost right under it.

Be careful when disconnecting the wire, it is a bit of a pain.
When you unscrew the this little sensor, you will lose some coolant, unless you have drained some of it beforehand.

I know this sensor sends to the gauge because I had a similar issue not long ago.
The repair is easier than changing the oil. Do make sure tho that there is no coolant still leaking out of the small orfice, try and dry the orfice best you can, and use a bit of sealer on the sensor.
