Default What fluid and how much for my 95 Riv?

I am going to change the trans fluid and filter and install a trans cooler tomorrow. Does it take a weird trans fluid? How many quarts should I buy?Sorry I have sooooo many questions but this is my 1st front wheel drive.

How do you get 10 qts out of the trans???????

When I changed my fluid to synthetic (well, half of it at least, better than none) a couple week ago, it took 7 qts exactly and I let it drain out for a while and made sure all oil was out of the pan and wiped down the valve body.

Do you really get 10 qts out? How? I'd like to flush my trans again so the majority of the fluid is synthetic.

Get a good, quality Dexron III rated fluid, usually refeared to as Dexron III / Mercon (Mercron is for Fords). If you can find Dexron VI, get it, but I don't think it'* in the aftermarket yet. It'* only been used for a one or two years and had little demand.

Remember, DON'T cheep out on fluid. $1.50 / qt. is too cheep. No Costal fluid from Autozone. I ike Castrol ATF, but get something good. You don't need synthetic, just get good fluid (I mean, how many times do you flush your trans fluid??? Three times in the life of a car. It worth a few extra dollars to save potentially thousands of dollars of trans problems.)

Oh, your car takes the most populat trans fluid on the market. You'd have to try to buy the wrong stuff. Just don't buy Type F ATF, it'll kill your trans.

When just dropping the pan and replacing the trans filter, I don't think you'll get much more than 6 quarts out of the system. Well, at least I have never squeezed more then 6 Qts out of my Olds.

Maybe when you add a trans cooler to your car you might have to add a quart or two extra to the system. But when you drop the pan and filter, only 6 Quarts will still come out. I would just run it a year with the Dino Dexron III and Syn Dexron mix you have in your system now and change it again next year.

I'm a cheap bastard. So when I find a name brand Dexron III trans oil(like Mobil) for less than a buck fifty a quart, you'll find me on that line. I don't drive my Olds as much as I use to as I have two other "toys" in my garage. I believe if you change your fluids on a regualar basis, you should not experience any catastrophic problems with your drive train.
