$259 that a lot if you ask me.. Does the cars alarm system still work then?
I'm not saying it not the resistor, but just thinking what I went though recently. Dealer could probably diagnose it quickly with their scan tool.

My last experience when security light stayed on was because one of my fobs programming went bad due to a faulty circuit board.
Does your Fob's all function correctly? Did you try my synchronization trick?
I had to get into a re-learn programming mode using a jumper paperclip between 4 & 8 on the obd 2 to re-program a new FOB.

How to bypass the VATS system in a late model GM vehicle

Fixed my Security dash light issue

THIS IS NOT A PAID ADVERTISEMENT, EVEN THOUGH IT SOUNDS LIKE ONE.

If your Security dash is coming on and won't go off, like mine was, I found a fix. Costs $270, but it was worth my peace of mind.

My skill set is pretty much limited to checking fluid levels and tire pressure, but this fix took me and a friend (mostly my friend) about an hour and a half to install and has been rock solid for the last two months. It works in pretty much any GM car that has this particular theft deterrent system. Here's a pic:

It takes the whole system out of the loop. Its only job is to send the OK signal to the computer, which keeps the light off and means your car will start and you won't have to futz around resetting the system..

My 88 is 25 years old and, you know, an Oldsmobile. The chances of it getting stolen are pretty low. You can check out the unit at newrockies.com.

Thanks for the update!

Since the update is related to this thread and this thread is less than six months from the latest post I merged the update thread (that was located at https://www.gmforum.com/oldsmobile-1...-issue-313965/ ) with this one.

Thanks. I wasn't sure what to do there, since the original thread growing a bit long in the tooth.

No problem, it's all figured out. Thanks for thinking of that! :)
