Power Steering Problems on my Olds Delta 88 Royle, with the 3800 series II engine
 

Hello all - I Hope I'm Posting in the correct part of the forum. I have a Olds Delta 88 Royle, with the 3800 series II engine. She's been running just fine since I replaced the UIM/LIM gaskets with the expert help from this forum. The New problem that just popped up is I have no power steering! I've searched this forum and read Danthers Sticky on how to check the PS fluid and How to change out the PS Pulley, But I'm not sure the pulley is the problem? I't;s been well below Freezing the last two weeks and I thought maybe some moisture had frozen up inside the lines or cracked the pump housing, but the pump has fluid and I don't see any signs of leakage. IS the PS pump a prime suspect of failure or could there be some other Item(s) I should check before replacing the pump...and/ or pump pulley?. Any Input or advise would be appreciated. Thanks!

First of all i need some more info..How did it go out..did it just quit working or slowly get worse and worse or What??Does it have power to one side and not the other?

It just quit working. I had not heard any abnormal whirring or squealing from the pump. Just one morning there was no power steering. I checked the fluid, it was full and looked underneath the car and found no leaking fluid.

Hey MArcell Look at this!! Jest to let anybody know who might have a similar problem. It finally got warm enough, long enough for me to get my FA out on the driveway and pull out the Power Steering pump on my Delta 88. Following Danthers "How To" instructions I undid the belt and removed the PS pump. When I got the pump out of the engine bay the pump pulley spun freely by hand but when I went to pull on the pulley as if trying to remove it from the shaft the pully came right out of the pump along with about 3 inches of the pump shaft !! It looks like the Shaft sheared off at the pump end ( impeller? ) the Shaft seal kept the PS fluid from leaking out but pulley was just free-wheeling inside the pump. I bought a used pump from a Parts Yard. near-by and once again have power steering!! Yeah!! Now to find and eliminate that pesky Miss in the Engine.....
