Default Dash Temperature Gauge / Fuel Gauge

1995 Olds 88 Royale. 50, 193 actual miles. 3800 Series ii Engine.

Dash Temperature Gauge has stopped working 1 week ago.

Coincidentally , The fuel gauge has stopped working as well.

They both stopped at the same time. I dont know if the fuel gauge affects function of the temp. gauge. But , the fuel gauge is what I first noticed.

I checked all fuses on the drivers side box. All ok. Per Oweners manual. Nothing the passengers side fuse box relates to my issue....as far as I can conclude.

Car as all stock. Not molested. Original everything.

Went to the Cheverolet Dealer to get information. There is only one temp. sensor. Thinking it may have a sensor in the head. Per schematics ,nothing but the sensor under the thermostat . 3 wire unit. GRAY/GREEN/BLACK

Sensor is same one used to provide feedback to the ECU. Electric fans operate as normal and coming on when they are to do so. Car runs as normal.

Ideas ?

That is odd they would both go out at the same time.
Even though it could be sender/sensors, this makes me want to believe that somethings up with wiring into dash, like a connector or poor connection somewhere.
Does all the dash lights still work in gauges etc?

Everything is functional. Dash lights , no outages. Windows , locks. Radio. Power antenna. Everything is seeming A -OK, Other than the issue with the fuel gauge and temp. gauge.

You need a scan tool to read engine data(fuel level, coolant temp)...if you read it on the scan tool, possible cluster....

cluster is what i was thinking too, but obd1.5 not so easy to look at unless you have the right scanner. i think you can assume the ECT is working by the operation of the fans. some Junk Yards will let you try a part and see and if its not take it back, pretty easy to do a cluster swap in the yard lot if you take the trim out and that before hand

His 95 PCM won't see the sending unit.

Sending unit is wired directly to the instrument cluster...as per my 95 FSM. Fuel gauge is also independent of the temp gauge.

I am not sure if this relates to your case, but I do recall some of the 92-95 Bonnevilles encountering similar issues on the 3 gauges on the right side of the dash. They were on a separate board if memory services, and corrosion could develop inside the cluster.

Might not be a bad idea to check ground busses also but usually when those are corroded up badly more systems are affected.

Thanks for great support. By the way, where would the relevant busses be located related to my particular issue? I would like to check those. In the meantime...i have purchased a cluster for my Olds. I went online. These clusters are plentiful, cheap. Good to have as a back up no matter what.
