95 Olds 88 Fuel Problem
Ok I have searched the forums and did not see this issue. If I missed it please forgive me. I recently acquired a 1995 Olds 88. I know very little about the car except that it was well maintained but it did sit for about a year with occasional cranking to keep the battery charged. Over a period of time the car has started to just cut off for no reason. It just cuts off while running or driving for no reason. Sometimes cranking up quickly and sometimes taking 10 to 15 minutes. It was on a seldom basis but it is now happening very often. I replaced the fuel filter but it did not seemed to be clogged. I did disconnect the fuel line from the rail and there was no fuel when it was not cranking. That seems to be the problem. Fuel just stops going to the fuel rail. It will start back and that is when it cranks up. What is stopping the fuel? If it was the fuel pump would it start back pumping? Would it be so random? Is there anything else it could be?

Fuel pump turns on for 2 seconds when you first turn the key to RUN. Pump won't run again until you turn the key to START or when the PCM is seeing the engine run it keeps the pump on.
Over next to your battery(between the battery and the fender) should be a small single wire with a plastic connector all by itself not connected to anything. See if you can find it.

No, it connects directly to your fuel rail. Look for a little black cap on the front side of your fuel rail.

Ok it read 32 psi at idle and increased to about 40 at acceleration. The problem has been that either the fuel pump just stops or something stops the fuel from reaching the engine. As long as it is running everything seems good. I drove it for a pretty good while and off course it would not cut off for me while the pressure gauge was hooked up. Can't tell you what happens at that point yet. Is it possible that there is sediment in the tank from sitting for an extended period of time that actually stops the fuel pump randomly for short periods of time until that sediment moves thru? Fuel filter is not stopping up though.

I think 40 is the minimum.
