Eighty-eight A/C recharge
Hey guys...
What will it take to re-charge a slowly leaking system in a 94 Olds Eighty-Eight? It'* got 134A refrigerant and I'm going to buy a screw-on can to do the recharge.
The reason I ask this question is because in the past I've had an issue with the compressor turning on because the coolant is SO low that it'* cuts itself off electrically as a safety to ensure the compressor doesn't get smoked (that was on a 91 Chevy p/u that I still haven't solved). How do I by-pass that elecrical safety switch so that the system will accept the freon? Or, do 3800 powered vehicles not have that safety switch?

In the following post, the original author indicated that he jumped two wires together to get the compressor to come on. This is EXACTLY what I'm looking for. Does anyone know what two wires need to be jumpered???

Hello,
The high pressure switch is what your looking for. It is on the passenger side of the car on the firewall, It is a black plastic plug on the accumulator( Silver bottle shaped ) where you charge the AC. Unplug the switch, jump it with any kind of bare wire, turn on your AC and hook up your freon hose. Just charge like normal until the compressor turns on, 1 Can should get it to turn on. Once your done hook the switch back up and your off... Buy yourself some stopleak, it works for slow leaks....
