tranny
since i have a stransmission common to the bonneville i am going to put this here because 3800 powered cars stuff seems to be easily forgotten.
as some of you know from the tx meet topic i have lost 4th. well worse yet first gear has started to whine.
do i need to be finding a junk yard core or is the transmission rebuildable? what shift kit? a specific brand of adjustable modulator? and is there anything else i should get?
i have 1400 and will be removing and installing it myself.

Good Move Crash... I agree... This needs to be here..
The 4T60-E is a common transmission.. That was attached to a battery of different engines..
There are differences in the PCM over the years, as well the Transmission wiring harness changed and the pin outs are different..
91-93 did not monitor tranny temps, but some models had a Temp switch, usually in traction models..
94-94( most of them ) did monitor Tranny temps via a temp sensor usually at the bottom of the valve body..
The Valve body also chaged a bit... The 4th input shaft changed as well...
Regardless, you will want the 4T60-E Jr shift kit( shift improver really ) This will correct for a lot of shudders we have with the 60-E... You may want to get a new 4th input, as well as a hardened coffee can ( reverse reaction drum ).... a few of the parts you will get will depend on the transmission you get..

If you are going to do the rebuild, I would say tear it down and see if it is rebuildable.
I am going to say it will most likely be rebuildabe, but will need a master overhaul kit that includes friction plates, steel plates, seals, etc... I also like to use a NEW torque converter with a rebuild.
If there is any internal damage to the hard parts ( gears, shafts, etc.. ) you will need to source them from a local transmission shop or many times you can get a junkyard trans that slips bad for a cheap price and use those parts... if they are good.

Being that you have the 3.06 Ratio you have an 1897 Stall from the factory.... I'd stick with the factory stall, if you go higher I wouldn't want to exceed 2000 with the L27... No real need to...
The cars with the 2.84 ratio actually have a 1450 stall..
The 2.97'* 3.06'* and the 3.33'* all use the 1897 stall
