I'm needing to know some info of maybe how much more time I may be able to get out of the rear hub on the driver side. I do know that the hub has no noise to it but it does have about a half of an inch of play in it in either direction, also it is taking a tole on the rear tire due to the tire is leaning inward and it is riding on the inside tread of the tire but since I need tires for the rear of the car I really don't care about the tire itself. Also I do believe the rear hubs are original from 96 with 94K on them. With that being said is 94K good life for rear hubs or are they suppose to last a lot longer then that. Also to prolong the life of the hub on that one side I took everything out of the trunk except my spare tire, floor jack and four way. I am needing another month out of it before I have the money to fix it myself. So with this being said do yall think I can get another month out of it or should I be parking the car till I can get it fixed. Thanks.

Depends on what kind of driving you do. If you are just driving around town you will probably be okay. If you regularly drive at expressway speeds or have a long trip in the next month, you might be pushing your luck.

Every couple of days, after driving the car, see how hot the center area of the wheel is to the touch, and compare it to the other side. If you notice the side with the bad bearing starting to heat up relative to the other side it is a sign things are getting worse and something could fail.

Oh, and by the way, 94K seems low for a rear hub. Front hubs fail at that mileage, but rears are not subject to the stresses the fronts are. The rear hubs on my Bonneville are original at 250,000 miles. Are you sure its the hub causing the play?

Yes the driver side rear hub has play in it. I had a shop look at it to to make sure I was right and they said it was the hub and not anything else. The passenger side hub it nice and tight no movement at all from that side. Also I'm am wondering if when I replaced the shocks and the spring in the back if that could have been the reason why since the driver side rear spring was broken. Also I do due a lot of freeway driving for work along with around town during the week so since I average about 1k mile a month that is home long I need it to hold up.

there is no way to tell really how long it lasts because most people just replace them. its a little weird though i have never had a gm that didnt make noise way before it started loosening up. my inlaws dodge truck on the other hand didnt make any noise till a day before the wheel came of and he had to have it towed to my house

I agree with you on not having any noise to it but also I guess I should have really paid more attention to the problem about 5 month ago because I have been through two used tire on that side and I just thought since they were used tires I got my moneys worth out of them. I found out about the hub assembly being bad about a month or so ago when I went to put a third used tire on that side and the tie shop told me I shouldn't be going through that many tires, so there suspension guy checked everything over in the rear and found that I had a bad hub on that side.

Good news. I was able to track down a used rear hub with a 6 month unlimited mileage warranty with it for 38 dollars. Also I was able to find bolts and the nuts that match what is in there since the old ones need to be drilled out. I bought a Cobalt Steel drill bit to drill out the bolts. The hub will be replaced tomorrow. Then I will move onto replacing the radiator since the darn plastic part on the driver side of the radiator cracked today. I will be keeping a few gallon jugs of water in my car along with watching my temp gauge till next month when I plan on replacing it.

I know it is never a good idea to buy those parts used but beggars can't be choosers. I know it need to be replaced like now and I couldn't afford new so I went to the used route and I'm glad I did. The used one is is good shape with no play to it and the wheel is not leaning anymore and the car isn't pulling to the driver side anymore. So I'm really glad I went that route because it saved me a lot of money. Some of the money saved I can put towards getting a used radiator for my car.

those ones i posted are cheaper than what you paid. junk yards lot of times try to rip people off and the stuff might be bad before you get it. even if not sitting around isnt good for bearings so it might be bad before too long
