Default Delta 88 bumper interchange question

Just a simple but obscure question. I believe that the rear bumper bar (chrome steel part) for a 1986-89 Delta 88 is the same as the one for 1990-91, except that the 1990-91 has two extra holes for mounting the larger bumper cover used on the later models. Does anyone know for sure if this is true?

Thanks,

-Andrew L

Yes I believe they are the same because I had to replace my front bumper on my 91 olds 88 royale after a fender bender, with a chrome one off an 1986 olds 88. However I was unable to use the extended bumper cover on mine because it was too damaged, but I like having both front and rear bumpers chrome now.

Thanks...I'm really after the rear bumper though, not the front. Mine was hit in the rear and needs the whole bumper assembly. It was hit the same way in 2011 and I went through the whole process of fixing it, then it got hit again! The '90-91 bumper cover is tough to find, but if I can use any bumper bar from '86-91, I have some opportunities to at least get that part. I know the bumper shocks are the same part number for all the years of this generation. The steel bar is a different number for '90-91 vs. '86-89, but I suspect the only difference is the two extra holes for mounting the later-style cover.

By the way, your Olds looks identical to mine, except mine is a '90. Same color and trim.

Hey Andrew, I know how hard it is to find parts for the 90-91 Olds 88'*. The bumper cover for the rear should be the same as the previous year models, and as for the bumper molding that the 90-91 models have, you may be able to reuse that piece as long as its not severely damaged. When I had to replace my front bumper I was able to reuse the molding once I got it off of the damaged bumper and its actually very flexible, but I had to use a bumper cover off of an 87 Olds 88, and I had to paint it so it would match the rest of my car. Here are before and after photos I took when I replaced my bumper. Let me know if you need any tips or anything.
