94' Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight Turn Signal Problem

My girlfriends 88's turn signals were being sporadic and clicking on and off when she would try to turn them on. It was sort of like,

-Switch up-
-Click...-
-5 seconds later-
-ClickClickClick...-
-30 seconds later still no clicks-

Now, after it doing that for about a week, they don't work at all. I've already tried the following things to fix it:

1. Spraying Air to clean out any dust or dirt that might clog in it.
2. Spraying WD-40 to try and see if it's just stuck.

I've checked the Fuse Box, but I can't seem to find the right fuse as I'm not familiar with the abbreviations and lingo on the cover.

Please reply, Thanks!

Check to make sure ALL lights are working properly and check your blinker fluid. I mean your flasher.

Her Hazards work, if that matters. Although I've never hard of Blinker Fluid, how would one check to see if that's okay?

Turn the hazards on, and locate the flasher under the dash by the clicking sound it makes. The turn signal flasher is usually next to it, and looks like this:

Hey Mike, is this the stuff you normally use?

That's the stuff!!! Along with my crossdrilled brake lines.

I don't really appreciate the fact that I come to your site for advice on a problem, and I'm welcomed by a Moderator Gearhead who gives me absolutely no help. That's not a very good way of promoting your website.

Also, the Flasher is working perfectly, because her hazards work.

I do believe 2 of us did give you something to check. Any humor on the side is a bonus. If you have no humor, then, well...

In any case,

The Flasher is working normally, and the Fuses seem to be in tact. (not burnt)

The only thing I can think of is to replace the entire Arm (with the wind shield wipers, move up/down for turn signals, etc)

Is that a difficult process?

Mike 05-18-2012 08:39 PM

You do have 2 different flashers if I recall.

Your girlfriend's '94 should be similar :

I see Fuse 8. 20A going to the Flasher, and that going to the Purple Wire on the Directional Switch.

So to find any problem, Fuse 8. 20A Would be my first stop, then the Flasher?

Seems easy enough.

I looked up the location of the flasher, and unfortunately its under the drivers side dash being held in place by 2 very annoying Bolts. I got a project tomorrow!

Thanks for any help, and anymore help would be very appreciated.
