94 olds 3.1 overheating
Hello everyone/ I find myself once again asking for advice from the vast pool of knowledge . My 94 cutlass supreme 3.1 with 133,000 miles is running hot and i am losing fluid from the system. There has been no sign of coolant in the oil or trans.I find that sometimes I will see fluid dripping from the drivers side by the radiator at a fairly good drip, other times no drip at all. The first part of my question is , is there any kind of pressure release besides the coolant reservior built into the system in that area? The second part deals with bleeder screws , are the screws used to remove all air from the system and how do they work? they look like a screw with a nut on it going into the place where the hose goes into the engine where the thermostat is. I cant really see where the leak is but I have a very hard time getting down to look under the car. I hope I explained this good enough to get the message across clearly. Thank you all for any help you may be able to offer.

Not sure where the leak could be coming from, did you inspect the hoses well?
The bleeder screws are for expelling air out, but be careful and never turn the lower bigger part of it, it will come out and hot coolant will go everywhere, the same with the smaller upper part that you are supposed to turn, you only turn it 2-3 turns at most, it can come out and spew all over as well.
The best way to fill the system is to get one of these great funnels.

Thank you for the info, It is good to know this stuff. The car is acting strange The last 2 days it has not leaked hardly any water at all. It runs under 200 degrees on the highway. On city streets it will run 200 / 215 and as soon as I get a bit of open street it will come down to 200 or slightly under. What temp range is average ? Also on the radiator cap is it supposed to block the overflow tank off and at a certain pressure or temp it should open to allow water to flow in? Thank you for your time and effort to provide some much needed answers . Gary r

With an OE 195F thermostat in there those temps are normal.
I don't think the rad cap can block flow to the overflow, I think it only flows over once the pressure builds a little more than normal.
Maybe somebody else can better answer that than me.
