88 Olds Tornado Body Iginition fuse keeps blowing

Ok, So my uncle took out my gas tank to changed my fuel pump and the retard broke my gas float. So i had to finish the job myself and unc didnt get payed. After changing fuel pump eveything worked except dash. Found out the body ignition fuse kept blowing righr when i turned the key. I put two wire in the body ignition and it turned on my dash ( just to test it cant keep it like this dont want fire) so this lead me to rhe fuel pump harness. i unplugged it and boom. put the fuse in and no more blowing uppy. but now i have no fuel lol. So my theory is to find out which wire goes to the gas gauge on the fuel pump wiring harness as i thinks its short circuiting. And i want to cut it. And ideas? which color is the wire. I there a wire that powers just the fuel gauge ? And if i cut it do u think my dash will work.

There aren't spare circuits there. Whatever you cut will cause something to not work.

i get that. im saying which wire on the fuel pum wiring harness controls the fuel sending unit ( gas gauge) it already doesnt work. It seems like thats whats causing thw short circut. when my fuel pump is unplugged my dash works and the body ignition fuse doesnt blow

Part of me also wants to suggest checking the fuel pump diagnostic lead, usually up in one of the front fenders, just to make sure it's not plugged in to something stupid. It should be disconnected.

i dont think you guys are understanding my issue. My uncle brokw thw gas gauge float( pretty sure its short circuting because its still pluged in inside the gas tank. My dash doesnt work when my fuel pump is pluged in. Eveything else works. The dash fuse blows when i twist the key right away when the fuel pump is pluged in. the location im unpluging the fuel pump on the wiring harness going directly to the fuel pump is underneath the car by the fuel tank.(main connecter) I dont want to drop my tank again and fix the gas float. ill do it next year when summer arrives again. My theory is there must be a wire that control the gas gauge( hopfully theres one that controls just the gas gauge) if i cut that wire should stop the fuse from blowing. and keep everything else intact since the fuel levevler is already broken. this is a 1988 oldsmovile tornado. everything about these cars are weird
can someone plz help me that know what they are talking about.

The Problem

pizzahut88 Oct 11, 2020 09:46 PM

IS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT shorting out. Causing dash fuse to blow. NEED A WAY TO BYPASS

If the fuse blows when the sending unit is plugged in, then the fault is in the sending unit. Leave it disconnected or replace the sending unit.

I have the wiring diagrams.

could u tell me which color wire is for the fuel sending unit so i can cut it without dropping my fuel tank again
