4t65e swap

I need help please....

I have a 1996 oldsmobile with a 3800 and 4t60e tranny. Will my tranny quit working. So I swapped out for a 4t65e from a 2000 bonneville. I also used a 1999 oldsmobile lss engine wire harness and pcm.
The tranny has the internal park/drive switch. But I used the external switch from my original tranny and the 1999 harness was wired for the external switch as well. So my problem is this: When I go to start my car, The odometer and gear selector indicator on the gauge cluster will not light up. And the car will not start. The starter is not getting power to the little purple wire. But every thing else works. I even tried a 1998 lss pcm and body computer and had the same problem.

Ideas?????????

Thanks

ok I hooked up the stock engine harness (minus tranny) and stock computer And I have the same problem no odometer numbers and gear selector on the gauge cluster. So what would cause that problem??

I'm wondering if its a Security issue.

Does the fuel pump prime when you turn the power on?

Thats a thought I'll go look. If it is a security thing how would I reset?

I have checked all the fuses and there good. Does any one know where I can download a fsm for my car??

I think I my have this figured out. I need the pinout for the plug from the engine harness to the body For a 1996 and a 1999. I think that plug is pinned different

Didnt you revert back to the stock harness and pcm?

mobilejoe Jul 14, 2012 09:45 AM

yes but I had a dumb moment and plugged it in wrong. What can I say but dumbas..
I have the car running on the 1999 harness and pcm but i'm getting a p1860 code So i'm thinking that there is a wire off some where. When I look at the two plugs side by side you can see some wires are in different spots. but not all the colors match. That would have been two easy. But she runs nice. But I have not driven it yet Not tell this p1860 code is figured out. The p1860 is a tcc pmw solenoid code. That's about all I know.

Thanks for the help

Why does that code sound familiar?? Seems i seen it a few times on here with the newer transmissions. Do a search here on the forum and see what you come up. I wld do it for you, but im at work doing all this forum stuff via my phone.

I think it's time to order a fsm or download one if I can found where.
Tell me if I'm wrong on the order to figure this out:
1) start with checking all the plugs What i'm thinking is the engine/tranny harness came from a federal emissions car where as my car was a calf emissions car. Maybe one wire is off in the main plugin but without a diagram I just don't know.
2) ohm out the tranny solenoid and check if there good or not
3) curse and yell and beg to the car gods for a answer??? maybe this should be first?

if anyone could post a the pin layout for the main engine to body connector for
1996 oldsmobile lss calf emissions
and
1999 oldsmobile lss federal emissions

any other ideas would be great
