4T60E 97 Olds 88
Hey guys
Got axel seals leaking on a 97-olds 88... I replaced the axels, seals, and were leaking soon after ... so replaced the seals... still leaks, so replaced them again, and axels too, still leaks both transmission axel seals leak, yes one side has a little slop when try to shake it in transmission, but nothing bad, I've looked at rock auto, carquest, etc.. to find a seal that will actually stop the leakage car now has 80k is there a seal that will take care of this problem? I used timkin seals .... Thanks in advance |
Possibly wrong axles were installed. If you have access to the old ones, mic the shaft size.
|
no access to old ones or would have reinstalled them....
correct shaft, s |
Well, its one of 2 things, incorrect shafts(just because the part# matches or the brand could be wrong too) or wrong seals.
I'm suspecting wrong shafts if you have gone through 3 sets of seals. |
and 3 sets of shafts
|
I'm at a loss then. Unless... previous owner swapped trans from a supercharged car. Shafts are different diameter I believe.

Does your transmission have a vacuum modulator on it?
|
It has the vacuum modulator, its just down below the air filter box
I have done some reading, I guess most of the reman CV axles are turned down to make smooth where the seal is located Today I ordered 2 national seal Redi-sleeve #99139 and 2 new seals... will defiantly fix the issue when I get them installed later in the week |
The only reason I asked, was to verify that it was a 4T60 and not a 4T65.....
I have never run into issues with reman axles and new seals leaking....as Mike suggested, double check the part numbers....double check to see if it is leaking between the axle and seal, and not the seal and the case.... |
I ordered the seals and sleeves, so will get them sometime next week from amazon I guess
Will let ya know how everything works |
