2003 Bravada
Hi everyone. New to gmforum and I'll probably be postng in/on this section quite a bit. To be honest, my wife and I have Fords, but my MIL has been a diehard Olds fan, which brings me here. She had a stroke and has been unable to drive. We had the idea that we may sell her Bravada but she insists that she will drive again. I will not sell it as long as she has a goal of driving again. In reality, she won't, but thats another story. About the Bravada (note-I actually like it. Very comfy compared to my F250): 2003, v6, solid/no rust which is unreal being that it spent its whole life in Michigan, a couple of spots where the clear has come off, 156000 miles, MIL bought new The issue right now-I let it sit for to long over the winter and the battery died. Pulled it, charged it, etc. When I went to start it, the message "check brake system" came on, along with the brake related dash lights. The security light never shut off either. And, with the key in the run position, I could move the gear selector from park without touching the brake After looking around on the net, it seemed to be the ignition switch. Replaced it. Now I still get the lights and message but have to push on the brake to go thru the gear (like it should be). I do have power to everything (lights, hvac controls, radio, etc) but still no restart. When I turn the key to start, everything shuts off except the 'security' light. Any thoughts or ideas? Thank you in advance, Tim |
Since the battery was low/dead, this could have set codes in the modules......especially if there were no problems previously.....
So, the first thing I would do is get a good scan tool on this, and check for codes(make a note of them)....clear them......and then see if any of the codes come back...... Simple scanners/code readers only read "P" codes.......you will need to go to a garage that has a scanner capable of reading P, B, C, U codes, etc. |
You may have to relearn the security system

Thanks. So a trip to either the dealer or a decent repair shop is in my future? |
You can't do it yourself, without the proper tools......

I wonder if he got the new switch timed wrong. I did that with my Blazer when I had to replace that damn switch.

When you do get it fixed, be sure to drive it around every once in a while. That way the battery will stay charged and you will be assimilated. :) . . . and MIL will appreciate it too. Disclaimer: They all have their plusses and minuses. Some of my comments above are in jest. No bashing of CathedralCub necessary.
