I found the parthere. Am I right in assuming that I will be splicing this into the old wiring?

I've ordered the part, however, I am now having an issue that when the cooling fans come on, the engine will not shut off until the cooling fan relay is removed (the a/c compressor is disconnected, so I know that it isn't the problem). Does anyone know where the potential problem is?

I have no idea where to even start.
The only thing I can think of is look over the wiring to see if anybody has made any modifications. Any fuses where they don't belong, even under the dash.
I am at a complete loss. If the fans are running, key goes off, does the car shut off when the fans kick off?

seems like the power from that relay is backfeeding the ign circuit, dont have time to go through the diagrams but look for chafed wires, maybe pull the fuse box and check out the wires and where the relay plug in

This popped up in my visitor messages. I am going to resurrect the thread with this post, as it is the same issue with the same car.
It sounds like we need to pull out wiring diagrams, and dive in to this one.
This one is beyond my scope in all honesty, I just asked the question to get a better understanding of the issue so that we could all get on the same page.
I agree with jwfirebird however, it sounds like something from the fan circuit is backfeeding the ignition circuit. I still don't know where to start though. Sorry
A few months ago, I had an issue with my Alero'* engine not shutting off. I don't know if I should start a new thread, but since you were really helpful I'd like to know if I could pick your brain.
In the post, you asked if the fans are running, key goes off, does the car shut off when the fans kick off? The car doesn't shut off. I wonder if it'* a diode somewhere on the cooling fan circuits, since that'* the relay that I have to pull to cut the car off.
I appreciate any help you can give me! Thanks
