Default 1999 Olds 88 v6 3.8 a few routine maintenance questions

Ok guys, I have some routine maintenance questions:
1:I was going to inspect, and replace if necessary the spark plugs in my car. However the heat shields, cover almost the whole plug boot. Are those shields removable,so the boots can be removed, if so, how? And are platinum plugs ok to use in the 3.8?

2: I'm gonna service the transmission filter too while I'm getting things ready, with a rubber pan gasket is any sealer required, or is it installed dry?

You can twist the whole thing. If you're careful you can use a pair of needle-nose pliers to rotate and pull on them.

Install dry.

If you start pulling the plug wires just plan on replacing them.
