1998 oldsmobile cutlass GL 3.1 Liter

Is there any possible way to seperate the engine from the transmission while still in the engine compartment?

Danthurs Nov 26, 2011 12:14 PM

Move to correct area.

Yes. You need a engine lift.

Disconnect the wiring harness and move out of the way.
Disconnect the fuel lines
Disconnect the throttle cables.
Disconnect the exhaust.
Disconnect the coolant lines
Remove the inspection cover on the bottom of the engine.
Remove the 3 bolts from the flex plate to torque converter
Remove the mount between the diff cover on trans to back of engine.
Remove the backwards bolt from engine to trans, back side. A bunch of extensions and a socket will do this.
Remove the other 4 bolts holding engine to trans.
Crack the seal and lift out

You will be able to see it from the right hand wheel well its about mid way down on bellhousing , You may have to pull well .and like Dan said you will need a real long extension
