1997 Olds Bravada Brake Lines
 

Hey everyone! My Bravada's Brake lines are looking pretty rusty. I thought I'd replace them for safety sake. I've done a lot of brake lines before and always prefer pre-bent stainless lines over bending, flaring, etc. The brick wall I'm ran into is I can't find a pre-bent line kit ANYWHERE. So I have two questions I would like help with.....Does anyone know where I can buy a line kit.....I found plenty of kits for the Chevy s10 Blazer 4 door and the GMC. Does anyone know if the chassis/frames/hardware etc. are the same on the Chevys and GMCs are the same as the Bravada. I didn't want to buy a kit if it won't work. Thanks for the help. Your better off getting a 25ft roll of the green line, your own double flair kit and a box of unions etc. In the long run, its cheaper.

Most people just leave the old line in place and run the new line wherever. An old plumbers rule is, if you touch one pipe, it will leak somewhere else.

But as far as comparisons, they are pretty close when it comes to what's mounted to the frame.

Only problem is the junk they sell for making bubble flares......I went through FOUR different tools before I could find one that could make a decent flare or bubble, without leaking....that essential GM flaring tool was awesome....

You can get away without making bubble flares, by getting a series of lengths of straight tubing(which is easy to bend.....I put a 2" pipe in a vice and make my bends around the pipe)...like Mike said, you just connect the various lengths with unions....You will have to go end to end, or find a union, that has a good length of pipe up to it and replace it from there....

Or if you find a good section of pipe, just cut it beyond the rust area, and you will have to make ONE flare......hopefully you can rent a good flaring kit, to make one flare.....

i got a decent one at carquest, i want to say 40-50 bucks. i wish i could remember the brand. but you arent likely to get a decent one or rent it from advance or autozone, its all the same chinese stuff. i got a couple rolls of tube(the different sizes) the tool, and a hand full of fittings for well under a hundred. way cheaper than any prebent kit and the prebent ones follow the factory routing which most times is impossible to get to once the engine and everything is in the vehicle.

Thanks guys. I have a good flare tool. I just don't like doing it. I did plenty of complete lines on frame off projects (easier to find any small leaks) This Bravada only has 67,000 orig. miles on it the underside looks pretty good but if you look down from the master cyl. and the 4 wheel abs unit where the lines were clamped the clamp rusted and spread like a rash up the lines. I didn't see that much on my Blazers I had. These lines have a lot of bends and coils in a tight space which is why I was looking for pre-bent. Plus pre-bent I thought would be easier to swap out quickly so I don't get air in my abs unit. I never messed with a 4 wheel abs unit before and heard if you get air in it it's a whole other mess to deal with as far as bleeding goes.

regardless of how long you have it out you have to bleed it. the lines need to refill. you can do it two ways, the easy way is to have someone with a two way scanner do it. i have done it myself without it but it takes bleeding it 2 or 3 times and getting out on a dirt road and activating the abs between each time bleeding
