1996 Oldsmobile engine cranks but doesn't start
my 96 olds 88 the other day wouldn't start. everything electrical was working except for the power windows when this happened. after a few minutes it finally started and everything worked fine. the car hasn't done this in over a year so i didn't think much about it. a guy i work with has a 96 bonnie and the same thing is happing to his car too. as a matter of fact his has stalled out on him but mine hasn't, yet. anyone know what might be causing this?

When it wont start, do you have spark? Can you hear the fuel pump prime?
|
no i don't hear the fuel pump
|
Check over the wiring for the fuel pump. check the grounds.
|
Don't forget to check the fuses while checking the wiring.
|
Check the underside of the fuse box as well. Seen a few that corroded and caused intermittent problems.
|
Sounds kind of like the Cam sensor like I am having.
You have any codes? |
Step 1: Take note of the security light. The security system did different things based on which year it was. Some supply no fuel, some won't let the engine crank and others let the engine prime and then get no more fuel.
Step 2: Determine if you are missing fuel, spark or have something silly like a dirty maf. |
I'm getting no codes. earlier this year i had a bad coil pack and it didn't give any codes when that happened. and the wiring seems to be fine also. it hasn't acted up in the past couple of weeks and seems to be running fine. strange:confused:

ok so last night as i was pulling into the driveway my car stalled. i also didn't have power to my windows or door locks. today i cleaned the ground buses located by both front doors and now my door locks don't lock with the key on but do work just fine with the key off. WTF is going on??? God how i hate auto electrical problems. i'm not sure if cleaning the ground buses will help or not but something has the windows, locks, and fuel pump all connected.
