1995 Riviera 3.8 SC engine into 1986 Regency
 

Will a 1995 Series 1 3.8 Supercharged engine out of a Riviera drop right into my 1986 Oldsmobile Regency with a 3.8 series 1?

Im about to call and buy the whole car so if anyone knows if it wont work for my car please let me know why. Thanks!

Not without the ECU and harness. And if your trans isn't an E-series, it won't work.

Im getting the whole car and pulling the motor and trans. Will that trans work in my car or will I be better off bolting the SC motor to the trans I have in the Ninety Eight?

You will have to swap everything over, including harness and ECU.

Your 95 ECU will attempt to control a transmission that I believe is non-electronic.

On another note, none of this OBD 1 system will probably work in your non OBD chassis. Your cluster won't work, no speed, no tach. I'm sure there are other things that won't work. And if you don't bring every emission thing over, you will run the risk of running this in open-loop all the time and you will get shitty fuel mileage.

Dang so I should not be getting this car? I figured since the were both series 1's it would be a strait swap.

Did'nt they run OBD1 from 1980-1995?

If anyone know for sure that this will or will not fit please let me know. One of my concerns are the motor mounts as they look like they are in different locations but im guessing ill just have to use the mounts on my engine and it will bolt to the SC engine.

Also obviously if the wiring at the fire wall will not support the engine that would be another huge problem.

Dont know if it matters but I figured I would post a picture of the connection. Im pretty sure thats a OBD1 connector under the dash right?

Well I talked to someone that knew quite a bit about these motors and said most everything like motor mounts and power steering would just swap from one motor to the other. The biggest problems im going to run into are the trans wiring and anti theft. The thinks its not going to be that hard to wire from the engine harness to the computer but is worried my speedo and other things may not work like said above. I have a lot of automotive experience and im not afraid of a little work the only problem I see me running into is information on wiring for theses cars as there is no info on them anywhere. Anyone have any comments on the swap? The car im looking at buying has only 60,000 miles on it. The sub frame rotted off the cradle.

I would rather ditch the Regency, and keep the Riv.......this year Riv was a solid car with a great ride.....is the body damaged? If yes, and not too bad, I would invest in fixing the body rather than transfer the engine/tranny....

The Riviera has frame damage thats why he is selling it. My Regency is in great shape (one owner 98,000 miles) just the motor is misfiring and having trouble starting as well as the trans has lots of play in it.
