1995 Cutlass Supreme Convertible 3.1L V6--Grooves in the brake rotors
 

So I have this '95 CS ragtop that I drive around for fun on nice days. A couple of weeks ago, the battery was dead because I'd left a map light on for about a week and once I got it charged up again, the instrument panel's parking brake light has been on, when the engine is running, but not when the switch is on, even though the brake pedal is in the released position. Pressing the pedal down and releasing it doesn't change anything and the car doesn't seem to drive like the brakes are dragging but I did notice two of the rotors have grooves in them. The front left and right rear rotors are perfectly smooth but the left rear has slight grooves and the right front has somewhat more significant grooves. I'm thinking this isn't exactly normal, right? Just for comparison, I looked at the rotors on my 2011 Impala and all four are perfectly smooth. Also, the pads and rotors on the rear of the Cutlass were brand new as of this past June. I've only put a few hundred miles on the car since then. This summer was just too damned hot to drive it. I'm driving the car a little more now that the weather has become more moderate, so I want to make sure I'm not doing any damage as I drive it.

Sometimes you will get debris stuck in the pad and it cuts a groove in the rotor. I see this a lot.

. . . or someone ran a set down to the rivets in these rotors' history.

If that's the case, shame on the shop for not replacing the rotors.
