1989 Olds 98 Twilight Sentinel problem

My car has this feature, automatic lights which work from a photo sensor on the dash, however I have never used it and always had it OFF.

Today I went to put the lights on, using the regular switch, and the dash lights didn't illuminate. I checked the dimmer and it was on MAX. I then turned on the twilight sentinel switch and the dash lights went on. When I shut the Sentinel switch again, the dash lights went out. Any ideas?

sounds like your regular light switch is bad. i would take it out and see if you get anything out when you turn the lights on

Are you doing this when it's dark or light out?

I am doing this in complete darkness. The strange thing is that I have never used the feature, just used the headlight switch. Now I have to use the T/S switch to make the dash lights work. (The dimmer then works fine)
