Oil and oil filter change
To keep your engine in good running order you should change your oil ever 3000 miles or ever 3 months which ever comes first. (With standard oil)(Synthetic oil can be further between changes)
Make sure you have 4.5 quarts of oil and the correct filter. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040014.jpg Put your car up on ramps. You can use a jack, just make sure you have jack stands. Ramps are much safer and easier to use. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040009.jpg You will need a catch pan for the drain oil, a oil filter wrench, and a 15mm wrench for the drain plug. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040010.jpg Slide you catch pan under the drain plug and oil filter. The filter is on the passenger side. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040012.jpg Now take your 15mm wrench and remove the drain plug. It's located on the back of the oil pan. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040013.jpg Once the plug is out the oil will drain out. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040015.jpg When the oil has slowed to a trickle you can remove the filter. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040016.jpg While that is draining dip your finger tip in to the drain oil and apply oil to the rubber seal on the new filter. This will prevent damage to the seal when you put it on. Cover the whole seal with oil. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040017.jpg Now put the new filter on. Put this on by hand, no tools are needed to tighten it. Simply make it as tight as you can by hand. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040018.jpg By now nearly all the oil that can drain out has come out. Inspect the tip of the plug for debris. Then put it back in the drain hole. make sure you tighten the plug. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040019.jpg Wipe up any oil left on the pan. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040020.jpg Slide your waste oil off to the side for disposal. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...e/P3040021.jpg Now on top of the engine, locate your oil filler cap. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040022.jpg Twist to remove. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040023.jpg Use a funnel and fill the engine with 4.5 quarts of oil. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040024.jpg Replace the cap https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040022.jpg Check under the car for any leaks. If you see none, then start your car. Check the oil pressure. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040026.jpg Let engine run for about a minute, then turn it off. Wait about a minute for the oil to drain back. Now locate your oil dip stick. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/tech-i...8/P3040027.jpg Pull it out, wipe it off, reinsert the dip stick all the way in.
