Wheel hub replacement
Jack your car up and place jack stands under the car.
Remove the front wheel Now remove your brake caliper. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090512.JPG Once that is removed, remove the caliper bracket. There are 2 15mm bolts holding this on. Then remove the brake rotor. Spray some penetrating oil on the hub nut. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090513.JPG Now use a 34mm socket with a impact wrench, or a long braker bar to loosen the hub nut. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090514.JPG Turn the nut so it is flush with the end of the spindle. Then strike it with a large hammer to pop the axle loose and push it in. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090515.JPG Now remove the 3 bolts holding the bearing hub in place. 2000+ the bolts are from behind, 96-99 the bolts are front the outside and you will need to line up the hole in the hub. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090516.JPG NOTE: 2000+ this is a 13mm bolt, 96-99 this is a T55 TORX bolt. the t55 bolts are hard to find at the dealer, the part #1641343. it is easy and cheap to get online so it would be best to have them on hand if one strips. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090517.JPG Unplug the wheel spin sensor to get the last bolt. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090518.JPG Now take a 1" long bolt with a nut and washer and place it between the hub and frame like this. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090520.JPG Then start turning the nut out. This will push the hub out with little effort. You can then use a pry bar to finish, or switch to a 1 1/4" bolt and do the same thing. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090521.JPG The hub will then pop out. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090522.JPG The axle may stick, if it does, just use a jaw puller to push the axle in. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090523.JPG And remove the old hub https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090524.JPG Now take the new hub and feed the WSS plug threw and slide the hub on to the axle. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090525.JPG And replace the three bolts. Be sure to also have the metal guard in place. https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090526.JPG Replace the rotor and torque the hub nut to the proper setting https://www.gmforum.com/howto/wheel%20hub/P4090527.JPG Put the brake caliper back in place. Put the wheel back on the car and torque the log nuts to the proper setting. Remove jack stands and lower car to the ground. |
