Always try to get to a safe location, a parking lot, side road, open area. Changing a tire on the side of the road is extremely dangerous. Have a spotter and if alone keep your eyes open.
If on the side of the road, be sure to stay safe, lift car on flat level ground, place a rock or other item on both sides of a good wheel to prevent car from moving.
Take the wheel and lug nut covers off(if you have them)
Place the jack under a safe jacking point and lift jack up and contact the lifting point, don't lift the wheel off the ground
Then break your lugnuts loose after moving anything thats in your way.

then jack it up, only lift as far is needed to remove the tire. If you have a jack stand, use it. If on the side of the road and no jack stand is available, DO NOT put any part of your body under the car.

then remove your lugnuts, place them in your coat pocket, in the hub cap, or someplace they wont get lost. This is easy to do when it'* night time and raining.



then remove the wheel/tire. Some times the wheel will be stuck. Sit on the ground and kick the bottom side of the tire, then the top. Don't kick real hard as that can make the car unstable and fall off the jack.

If you do like i did and put your lugnuts down in the snow spray them out with a penetrating water remover/blocker

then put your replacement wheel/tire on and thread the lugnuts on by hand to ensure they are not cross threaded


then tighten you lug nuts down in the bolt specific pattern i always tighten them just to they all touch the rim then torque them in pattern. First run them snug, then full torque. The proper pattern for a 5 bolt is every other lug. This will form a star pattern.

and then put your lugnut and hub covers back in place(f you have them)


then let the vehicle down off the jack and pat yourself on the back

You are done and have successfully changed a tire congratulations
