Adjust AC clutch plate
 

If you here grinding sounds from under your hood, or your AC is cooling intermittently, you may only need to adjust your clutch and not need that $800 service visit.

Locate the AC compressor, this is on the front of the engine on the passenger side.

Please note this example is being done on the bench. You do not need to remove the compressor from the car to do this. You may need to undo the 3 bolts holding it to the bracket and move it back to have room.

You will need a 13mm wrench and remove the nut in the center.

You will need a AC clutch drive plate assembly remover (J 33013-B) Image from GM FSM

Now with the nut removed you thread on the larger nut, you will need a 1" wrench to tighten this. Make sure it's in as far as you can go. You may need to clean the threads in the clutch.

Now take the long bolt and the small bolt and put them together like this.

Thread it all the way in.

Now thread the long bolt in to the part you put on the clutch.

After it's in contact with the shaft give it a small turn. It wont take much.

When you start the clutch plate and pulley will be in contact with each other.

After a small turn they will separate like this.

Check with a feeler gauge, you want between .015 and .030

Put nut back in place and check for rubbing or grinding sounds.
