The GXP has a 285hp (I've read that, and heard others say 300) 4.4L V8 Northstar engine.

Default yeah

The camaro and gto are really the same... gto has a bit different frame and body but drive line body style is pretty close, i bet they want twice as much for the gto over the firebird/camaro... and sence pontiac got its firebird back, it should only be a matter of time for chevy to gets the camaro back
I like the new gxp, i wonder how much less its going to be over the standerd STS

From what i have heard the GTO is going to be in the low to mid 30k.

But, its not just a firebird. It'* a completely different frame and whill handle completely different. It'* a European design with an american engine. Not american with and american engine. So handling will be a strong point.

That'* like saying me and my mice are basically the same. We're different sizes and species, but we have basically the same internal organs...

The Firebird is coming back???

To answer you original question, the GTO and the GXP are totally different. GTO is a Holden based rear wheel drive two-door coupe with the 5.7 litre pushrod engine, the GXP is a front wheel drive four-door sedan with the 4.4 Liter Northstar engine (overhead cams). Both have different engines, trannies, chassies, interiors, exhausts--totally different.

Also, the F body was designed by engineers in the U.*.--the GTO/Monaro was designed in the land down under (not European). They share the same engine block, but thats about it. Even the exhaust was developed specifically for the GTO.
