patching an oil pan
my dad had two options to fix the hole in the oil pan in his crown vic
1) pull the engine out take off the pan and buy a new pan then put the engine back in.
or
2) get some silicon and two empty oil filter boxes and silicon the bottom of the pan and hope it stays
What did he do????

Sad thing is, that probably doesn't void the warranty for a Ford, if you use the right silicone of course.
Seriously though, why can't you just pull the pan, why do you have to remove the motor, if there is a crossmember in the way, you could have supported the weight of the motor, and removed the crossmember. He should seriously get it fixed properly. Or his car could end up like this if he keeps fixing stuff that way.

Sometimes, you just gotta do stuff the easy way.

now why am i not suprised to hear that answer from this group
i heard during the filming of bullit they tore the entire bottom of the pan off and welded a metal plate right over it and kept filming.
my pan however the hole is small and towards the front so if any leakage would be miniumal
im also adding a poll to see how long it will last

i think that would be a much better idea for him to do, just take the pan off and get a piece of metal on the hole instead of cardboard. he might lose some oil in the process, but im sure he can just snag a couple quarts of Great Value 10w-30 to put in there.
