The Minnesota BCA is investigating a deadly shooting by Mankato Police.

Authorities say around midnight Monday, two women arrived at their apartment near downtown, only to find a naked man trashing the place. They called police.

When three officers arrived, they attempted to subdue and tazer, but without success. Before shooting the man, police say they came under attack.

"The male party attacked the officers with at least we know at this point in time sharpened pieces of glass which probably came from a mirror that was broken in the apartment, and possibly with a piece of iron pipe," according to Jerry Huettle, Mankato Director of Public Safety.

Police say the intruder was 26 year old Richard Vosburgh. Ramsey County will conduct an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the three officers were treated and released for minor injuries, and are on paid, administrative leave.

rather sad when you find this out...

The man fatally shot by police has been identified as 26-year-old Richard Vosburgh, who just this month had moved into the four-plex where the incident happened.Vosburgh'* sister didn't want to speak on camera, but she told News 12 that her brother suffered from bipolar disorder and was on medications. His family was trying to get him checked in to a mental health facility.

Very sad this sort of thing happens. There may be many factors which are not readily apparent here but it isn't uncommon for (some) individuals diagnosed with pshchiatric illness to stop taking their medication. Some don't like the way the meds make them feel and elect to stop. This can be problematic since the drugs will often be working, the individual starts to feel everything is okay now and doesn't believe the require them any longer.
