1080 i is better, but won't matter if you don't have anything that plays at that resolution. also any t.v. that is 1080 i should be able to do 720 p also. ( along with 720 i, 480 p, and 480 i )
Are you looking at a new t.v.??? if so, get the 1080 i. in my opinion.

Nope. We already have the TV.

We did, however, finally decide to open the freebie and hang it on the wall in the bedroom. So we got a new DVD player for the first one and gonna move the old one to the tv upstairs and it does "upconvert". For animated/cgi/action/lots of effects type movies, which resolution looks better? Always 1080i or will 720p do anything better/different that would make a cgi look better?

I guess I am not really sure on that one then... but MY GUESS would be that the 1080 i would look better either way because of the higher resolution and sharper more detailed image.

I just read that a few days ago and it went against what I would think too.
They also pointed out that many of the sets advertised as 1080P can't really display the show in progressive, they actually convert and show in interleaved (i mode). It made me wonder how many people spent serious cash for the top dog of HD resolutions when they could have had a 1080i set for probably alot cheaper.

Yeah, we bought the Sony Bravia 40" LCD 1080 i last November. absolutly LOVE it.
How do you like the HP? Do you currently have any HD programming? We are suffering right now with only 480 i or 480 p from the DVD player
Do you get any "ghosting" with your t.v.? I have heard that the LCD t.v.'* get it sometimes.. just wondering

We get a few HD channels that Insight can't seem to filter out of their normal cable service. CBS, Golf, Lifetime, and Bravo, and a slew of music channels. I haven't seen any ghosting at all.

Wow I am a computer guy and all this HD etc. stuff confuses the heck out of me.
I have a 42" Plasma 1080i with ambient lighting. I have no idea what other modes it has or how to switch into them. I just watch and smile.

I bought one of these tvs a few weeks back, been looking for a long time, I purchased an Xbox 360 elite to use on it, Let me just say the graphics are amazing, spend the extra money and get the latest, just my opinion
