Has anyone bought prescription eyeglasses online?
I'm looking for a good site recommendation with respect to their prices, selection, accuracy of order, etc.

So does no one else wear glasses? Or has no one else ever thought to shop for them online?

Eyeglasses are usually something you need to try on in person. They aren't one size fits all...

The thought of buying them online has never occured to me... I didn't think it was possible to get without a prescription.

Meh. I just get my stuff at America'* Best because its cheap. I usually wear contacts anyway so the glasses are just back-ups.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 4 years old so I am not too worried about adjusting them to fit. I have become quite adept at adjusting my own glasses in the past 37 years. All the online stores I have looked at so far have the exact frame dimensions listed for each frame model. Like this one. Notice the price difference on that page. The retail price listed is typical of what I have seen in the past week while glasses shopping at all my local retail stores. Almost a 500% markup! That'* how they pay for the rent on the store at the mall.

Prescription eyeglasses require a prescription, yes. You need to have a licensed eye doctor decide what your eyeglasses or contact lens needs are. You take the slip of paper on which the doctor wrote your prescription, fax it or scan and email it to the online glasses store, and they make you a pair of glasses from the frames and lens options you select. Same way the store in the mall does it, except it is online instead of at the mall.
So far I have found some great prices that undercut the big chain stores (Pearle, Lenscrafters, Wal Mart, etc.) by selling at about one-fourth the price. I just haven't found any place online that accepts my insurance; and my insurance plan will absolutely not reimburse me for the purchase. If I didn't have insurance that will pay for a new pair of glasses each year, I wouldn't even consider going to a big chain store. Anyone that has to pay for their glasses out-of-pocket should at least check out what is available online.

I have found the identical frames a friend of mine bought and paid over $400 for at a big chain store, online they cost less than $100 including prescription lenses and a free hardshell case.

I am looking for new glasses too as I haven't had any for 13 months since my ex broke mine.
I really have noticed I need them fairly badly now as I noticed over the past year how driving at night has gone from a light task to something slightly uncomfortable.
Contacts are not of interest to me due the care and time required to maintain them (not much, but I much prefer just remove and slap into the case on my dresser or in the console and a quick wipe with a glass cleaning kit I keep in my console as well).

One thing I'd like is for them to be titanium and hingeless frames like my last. I just don't want to spend $425 for another pair and then get assaulted from behind by the ex who I see about once a month at the night club..... next time she'll lose her career in Senior health care (nursing home) and she'll end up in jail.

I wound up buying glasses at Sears.

Now can someone explain to me why I need to provide my Social Security number to buy glasses?

I finally got my glasses. I made a huge mistake getting the no-line bifocals. Approximately 80% of the lens is unusable, and it gives me a headache to look through that part of the lens. There is a stripe across the top that is okay, and one very small dot of increased magnification at the center of the lens that is useful for reading only if I continuously turn my head across every line I read. The no-lines may work okay for someone who is near-sighted and whose lenses are concave, but I am far-sighted and they are useless.
These glasses are going back. I'll let you know how the old style bifocals work out.

I finally got back my new ones, with the lines. I don't like them either.
Other bifocals I have seen have the bifocal part placed on the lens 180 degrees different than mine, so that the "line" is on the bottom of the lens, and partially ground off, depending on lens shape. Mine are just below center, and cause a noticeable streak of distortion and double vision.
To top that off, I didn't get the anti-glare and anti reflective coating on these that I paid for on my first pair. I was told these would be the same as my first ones except for the lines.
But the little yellow flower on the birthday cake was that when I went shopping for clip-on sunglasses, every store I went to asked me why I didn't get transitions lenses; the ones that get dark when you go outside. Sears optical told me they couldn't make them for a bifocal prescription, but all the other stores said they can.
I'm not buying any more glasses at Sears.
