Working on the car dolly
The other day I was able to get a little work done on the car dolly. It'* almost done. Need a place to hook the front of the tire slings. So first I welded a piece of flat stock steel. Then I needed to cut a notch for the hook.

After drilling the pilot holes I then drilled out the rest, then cleaned up the notch with a angle grinder.

The trailer is upside down right now. But here is the hook in the notch.

Put a tire on the dolly and strapped it down.

Holds it really well.

Now I just need to cut a notch on the back side and reinforce with some bar stock.

I can then remove the hook point that is there. I really don't want to drive over that. Then build some ramps. I picked up some ratchet straps so I can anchor the car to the trailer in the center, both front and rear. Also want to add a winch to pull a disabled car on the to dolly.

If you are going to add a winch add it as close to the hitch point that you can, I don't know what size tube that dolly is made from but from the pics it doesn't look heavy enough maybe adding a hole for a ****** block closer to the wheels will help, and also keep your hook point lower
Nice work tho

Not sure if I will need a ****** block. I really only plan to use the winch to pull a car on the the dolly, not pull it from a ditch. I could always use a simple come along. I'll also look closer at the hitch portion. I may look at adding a little more to that area.

If you move the winch point closer to the coupler you might need a ****** block to keep the cable low !! Also adding a ****** Block will cut the pulling weight in half ! Not a need but a useful tool
My new truck (That) should be here by weeks end had a Self Loading Wheel lift I will be adding a 10,000 LB Winch to the box of the truck and a ****** Block on the Wheel lift

Adding one will be a simple thing to do. The winch is last on my list. So far I just need to finish the wheel sling part, ramps will be easy. Still looking for a 185/80/r13 tire to replace the leaking one I have. I'll keep my eyes open on craigslist. Once that'* all done the dolly will be usable. Then it'* time to look at a winch system.

Looking good!
You might be able to get away with a simple boat winch "U" bolted to the dolly frame. They are rated for 1100 lbs. which should be plenty to pull a car up. You can find them at Walmart for about $40.

Looking great buddy. One question though. Is the ratcheting part going to mount low enough that it won't get in the way of the body of a car?
I have mine currently on the front of the tire and need to weld it in low to keep from hitting the body/bumper.

That'* something I will have to check on after I get the car on the dolly. If needed I will change the hook on the ratchet to bring the ratchet down further.
