One other thing, at first they were very thick and dark. This is 2 days later. Lots of rubber on the road. Locking up the brakes wont leave that kind of rubber.

I think a person from Oregon known for not being able to straight line a burnout and still providing pictures of his ineptness visited your neighborhood. Need another clue? He tried to play an angel as he beatdown fellow members for auto shenanigans but bragged in the closed area of the Forum of scaring children off their bikes.
Hows that for seeing "different" Bill?

John...that'* different.
Being the man on the scene Dan.. I take your word for it. Looking at the pics, it did seem more like a lock up. Pics don't always give us the right 1,000 words

I failed to mention that detail. But ya, it was a thick layer of rubber, which tells me it sat there and spun and only moved forward slowly. So someone had a passenger, my guess is a female. He decided to show off with a brake stand. Smoked them good. As he let off the gas the tires were really hot and suddenly grabbed. The rest is history.

Looks like a RWD car got the best of someone lol. My guess...a Camaro or Mustang. Those things spin out easy as hell, especially when you have a young kid driving it. I've seen it in person and in videos more times than I can count. And yeah, that tree looks like it took quite a beating, i'm sure that car was totaled on the spot.

how about this:
bills right about there being no wheel hop at the end of a burnout, but since we're most likely talking about a RWD V8 i would safely bet that it was also a stick.
what if he did the brake stand as said, but when he shifted to 2nd (probably trying to still burn out more if not at least chirp them) it caught.
thats what it looks like to me, burned them all the way through first and probably power shifted into 2nd and lost control.
