odd. I had all four of mine taken out when i was 18 and all four were impacted.. They gave me a full dose of vicadin to take home with me but never even needed to use it. I was in very very little pain?? Sucks to be you.

Got my wisdoms out when I was in the AF. They asked if I wanted a local anesthetic or to be put under. I told ‘em to gas me. Started counting backward from 100…made it to 98. Next thing I know they’re wheelin’ me down the hall in a wheelchair. Done. The dentist later gave me 2 teeth in a bag. Turns out he had to crack two of ‘em outta there with a chisel. I forever have this mental picture of the dentist standing over me on the arms of the chair with a ballpeen hammer and a chisel in my mouth. I am soooo glad I wasn’t awake for that.

They gave me Tylenol 4 for the pain. I didn’t know any better. I thought they were just super strength Tylenols. So I took 4. Good thinkin’, I thought, ‘cause they’re Tylenol 4. Talk about dopey. I knew I was doing all the stupid things I was doing under their influence, I just didn’t care.

After a couple weeks I had to go in to get the stitches removed - the quack didn't put in dissolving stitches. He proceeds to chew my A1C butt out because I'm not brushing back there. He's like, a Captain or Major maybe even a full bird - I don't remember, so I can't tell him to stuff it, chowderhead, those bristles hurt on those healing wounds. Then he starts pulling stitches. He gets to one and starts yanking. I'm coming right out of the chair and he's yelling at me to sit still. A few yanks later and he realizes he forgot to cut this one. I was too young then, but if he tried that now, being older, wiser, and more crotchety, I'd plant my foot right between his legs and turn his grapes into wine. Jerk.

Wish I could say “I feel your pain”. But I can’t. You’ll just have to find comfort in the words, “This too, shall pass”.

I had my 2 left ones removed and it took weeks for the pain to go away. Vicodin did nothing but Percocet helped alot.

bonnie94ssei 10-05-2006 08:30 PM

I have all mine still..hopefully I won't have to get them removed...so far so good. :P

96bonniessei 10-05-2006 08:47 PM

i got them removed in june........dont even remember going home from the doctor about 75 miles from home until about 20 miles before home............i took so much pain pills that i just slept for about 3 straight days.....mine never hurt as long as i had my pills

I think the worst part was cleaning out the spots where the teeth were. My dude game me this little squirter thing clean it out with....gross

Jim W 10-05-2006 09:52 PM

Ya, not a pleasant procedure, I had my bottom teeth extracted, and I didnt really like the Tylenol 3's they prescribed.

I dealt with the pain. Just hope you dont get dry socket...NOW THATS PAINFUL

Yup me too. Almost the same story.Except I was like 16 or 17, and I took the gas, and they let me bring my walkman with me to listen to music while they cut them out. They had them out by the last song of the tape. I was listening to Ice Cube on that day. Yeah I wonder if they heard any of the words. Giving up the nappy duggout! LMAO

I only grew uppers so I count myself lucky. I was able to get back running after only a day off. I've heard horror stories though! Good luck on the recovery!

ahahaha!! HEY! Pete...let the man speak

I like that advice

But anyways, back on topic...

I am pretty much out of pain right now. So much in fact that I was just able to eat a hot meal. Soft, but hot.

All the residual numbness from the proceedure has just worn off completely in the last few minutes here. So the Vicodin must be working because all I can feel is just like a pressure back there. So I'm just gonna go with my trackrecord on this and assume this is going to be like any other proceedure I've ever had done, I always recover extremely fast.

Thank god he put in the dissolving kind, and yeah they gave me one of those irrigators for in a week or so, I get to use that to get any food out or anything that gets stuck back there.

Yeah, hah, about dry socket. Apparenly when my mother had hers done back in '74, she developed dry socket and said it felt like she had like lava on her gums back there that just would not go away no matter what she took! So I have a feeling that I don't wanna go there. The doc said that it happens in about 15% of cases. So I would rather not be a statistic.

So anyways, I'm off to bed soon, thanks for the support guys, just glad to be reminded that I'm not the ONLY one that had been tortured with this!

Just wish that place was closer. We had to drive all the way over to marshfield. Around 78 miles each way to be exact. And now I have to go back in about 1-2 weeks for a checkup on it all. So eh...drive drive drive. Thank GOD gas has finally dropped around now, I really don't know how I could afford to do it if it was still about $3.20.

-John
