Winter Car Woes..
Got any stories like mine to tell?
Was lightly snowing then tuned to freezing rain, back to snow again , then drops down to 17 degrees. By the time I got off work, the poor Park Ave resembled a snowy icicle, & I could not get any of the doors open, as they were well past frozen solid! If I pulled any harder on the plastic door handles they were going to snap! I managed to get the trunk open, where I located a long handle screwdriver to pry the door, & what a crack it was... once it opened! :D I got the car started & left the blower on high, for 30 minutes, just to melt the Park Ave Popsicle! :) |
Sometimes, if you throw your hip into the door, it breaks the ice on the molding. Then you can open the door.

Hrmmm.... I haven't worried about snapping door handles in a very long time...
Of course, I haven't frozen doors shut in a long time either I suppose... |

Even tho I like the Pk Ave the door handles design was PP for winter.
Attachment 79880 So pull up & then pull out, where things start to deform in metal skin. Just can't get enough pull outwards on these handles, without damage. Door hip check I tried, but the top interior door seals got wet and froze. I am just glad I got the door open! |
Make your hand into a fist and pound it on the table for emphasis. That's the kind of fist and pounding I use on my doors when they freeze like that. Use this magic fist to pound your way from the top-front of the window frame and work your way to the bottom-rear of the door. This gets some of the ice to fracture so you can get the door started. Works nearly every time.
