Confronting a bad driver
My mom.. although she knows what is right, and what is wrong.. she is a horrible driver. She is always drifting off, and not paying enough attention to the road. Like she'll be going down the highway, and all the sudden I will see the car swirve to the center, or to the shoulder, and then just before she goes across the line.. she'll look back at the road and correct herself. If there is nobody behind her, she will just drive all over the road [like go in the center of a 4 lane highway], and I have told her to pay more attention, but she doesn't listen to me. I have told her, if she were driving my car, I would be shitting myself, because it'* that bad. How can I confront her, so that she listens? Her car is 50% plastic, and a 30mph crash would ruin her whole front end. Is her having an accident the only way she will learn?

Have her hypnotized. Or, some people just wont get it, no matter how much you pound it into their head, whether its driving or doing something else.

Refuse to ride with her if you're not old enough to drive yourself. And if you are old enough to drive yourself, say that you don't feel safe with her in the car and don't let her take you anywhere until she shapes herself up.
It'* not a matter of her driving being unacceptable.. it'* a matter of safety, and if she isn't willing to drive safely, for your sake and your own, then it'* your responsibility to protect yourself and stay the hell out of the passenger seats...

Wow, that'* pretty horrendous. My dad tends to drive a bit "spirited" around town (he squealed the inside-front tire on a left-turn on a damp road, turning into the right lane and passing a car... worn tires have a lot to do with that ), but he'll pay attention. Might be bordering on wreckless, but it'* not bad enough that I have to bitch and/or refuse to get in the car.
I'll side with GFlem. You gotta do something. No driver'* perfect. But you better set an example once you do legally get on the road... no peeling out anymore!

RepinS: My dad is the EXACT same way. Although he likes to do doughnuts in parking lots . But, I feel my safest with him. He won't do something if he doesn't think it'* safe. He'* only gotten 1 ticket in his life [for speeding in a 40 year old pickup, that I was surprised could go the speed limit], and he is always going 15-20 mph over the speed limit. But he isn't drifting off the road, looking at the scenery.
See.. the problem with my mom.. is if I tell her I am not going with her, she will yell, and scream, and hit. My mom is crazy. I will take a picture of my door to prove it. I would be worried what she does to retaliate. The only thing I was thinking of, is for her to re-take a driving test, before I get in the car with her. But, the problem is, she knows everything! She taught me all the laws of the road, whether I chose to follow them, is another story. I don't drive with her anymore [she doesn't trust me with her car , and mine.. well half my engine is in my basement. So that wouldn't work. If I can get that plywood to make my door beyond strong.. I may be a little more interested in telling my mom "No".. but, I am still kinda scared, because if she get'* through the door, i'm screwed.

You own safety is in your own hands. Really, an inattentive driver is almost as bad as a drunk driver. Would you climb in a car with a drunk behind the wheel?
Same applies here.
