Where did the term computer "bug" come from
watching the history channel. terms "bug" and "debug". where did they come from?
|
Bug - A error or glitch in a program
Debug - Removing or fixing of the bug in order to make the program work better, sometimes known as a version such as 1.0, 1.1, 1.2.. |
The question though, why was the term "bug" coined, rather than "glitch" or "error"?
Why would either term, error or glitch, be considered a synonym for "bug"? |
ugh, i believe it was because an actual "bug" was found in a computer once that was causing it to mess up. So they found the bug, and took it out.
something like that... http://slashdot.org/it/03/09/09/1631...id=126&tid=128 |

Where did the term computer "bug" come from well dont look at me. :P |
The orignal computers were made of TUBES that glowed and generated quite alot of heat. The computer bug was a moth that flew into one of the first computers and caused it to fail.

I know this one...from my "A" school Navy days:
Yes, the term literally came from a bug being inside a computer. It was on board a Naval ship, when computers were first being introduced to them (if memory serves, it was an analog range computer for targeting). A moth had gotten into one of the relay contacts and, well, prevented the relay from doing its thing. So there you have it... Damn, got beaten to it...WTG Xac! |
