What type of car was it? Crown Vics are dog slow. All departments should drive the Impalas with the 3800 Series 2 with the 3.33 gearing. I read a patrol car spec book one time. The 2003 Crown Vic turned a 16.4 @ 82mph and the Impala turned a 15.8 @ 87mph in the quarter. The Impala is the much better choice for those car chases. Now if only they would use the new SS'* with the 3800 Series 2 supercharged.

Most departments dont worry about how fast cars can go. Just remember, you maybe able to outrun the cop car, but you cannot outrun the radio or the helicopter.

Police Package Impys are Front. All the cars we used at FLETC[Federal Law Enforcement Training Center] wer Crowns, Camaros, and one vette[chase car]. RWDs have more weight to push a vehicle off the road and plus when doing a pit manuver, you run the risk of throw the drivetrain into **** for a FWD vehicle by erratic turns or very hard turns that are required to "pit" a vehicle.

I personally just think it'* funny when "civilians" say what crap the Police Crown Vics are. I got a feeling, since the car is now thier main tool, if the Vics were such crap they'd quit using them.
You may or may not like them, but Cops ain't stupid. And they have a seriously powerful union. If they wanted better cars, they'd have 'em....

Plus today police cars don't have to rely on big horsepower. They just need a big rugged car to do the job. Although it'* sweet to see the Impalas and Camaros and such on patrol.
