If it'* the one I think it is.....The story is that a drug bust was occuring at the house next door. SWAT and other officers were deployed through the neighbors yard to guard/secure the rear door of the suspect house, and the dog APPROACHED (not charged, not attacked) the officer as they went over the fence into the yard.
Now, the issue is: The officer had no legal standing to be in their yard at the time. The family was not the target of the raid, there was no warrant issued to allow transit of their property, and the doctrine of "Hot Pursuit" doesn't apply. The dog presented no credible danger to the officer, especially since he was a SWAT member covered in "tacticool" accessories.
I don't think firing the officer is warranted, but a written reprimand and suspension certainly seems appropriate, as well as compensation for the family'* loss and a personally delivered apology from both the officer and the chief.

First, it'* definitely not the case my brother thought.
The guy had no authority, period. If cruelty to animals charges aren't filed by the cops, then the family needs to go to higher authorities. He needs to serve ALOT of jail time.
