Default More space for my stuff

My pc stuff that is.
Got a new Maxtor 300Gb sata hard drive with 16mb of cache on the weekend.
I replaced all the fans too. Nice and quiet with over 400gb total storage available.

It was ultra easy to install. mount, turn on computer load drivers, format, done.

Pmom wouldnt let me spring for a new dual core pc with pci express vid card, she says we dont need 5 pc'* at home .........sheesh :?

sounds like a nice machine. i need to upgrade badly. My AMD 1.3GHz isn't cutting it anymore and the 512mb ram max in my P4 1.5ghz makes me not want to upgrade. What do you have as a MoBo and Processor in that?

When it comes to computers, "Want" and the ability to afford are the only things that really matter, lol. Which brings me to the question of "Why do I still have that dinosaur at home?"

dvd and cd burners.19" sony monitor.
Kids have 1.8ghz with 80gb hd and 1gb ram, on board video cd burners. I built both from parts from ebay, less than 400cdn each.
And I got a laptop, older dell with windows 2000, works good.

ET MAINTENANT, a question from a supposed computer person....

I have an aux 120 gig HDD as a second hard drive. it is split into 3 equal partitions.
The boot device is still the 40 gig C: drive. The C: drive has the drivers to make the second HDD work.
I had to install these drivers so the aux HDD would work (stupid compaq machines)
Somewhere in the installation, it showed a pie chart and asked how i wanted to partition the 120 gig. As said, I split it into 3rd'*

Here is the problem -
If I had to re-format the C: drive, obviously the drivers for HDD #2 would have to be re-installed, but what of all the info and partition information? Would the machine recognize that HDD #2 has info and partitions, or would it be all gone?

Would everything on HDD #2 be lost in the process of re-installing the drivers for it?
Both hard drives are Western Digital.

SIDE NOTE - If it came to reformatting, I would remove the #2 HDD and reinstall it after the C: drive is taken care of.

What kinda screwed up setup are they running? All that info should be in the BIOS and the hard drive itself....

After installing the 2nd HDD, the machine recognized there was another drive, but would not let me access it.
Yes i checked out the bios and cmos and all that. Not until the drivers were installed did the thing work and show in the list of drives (A:, C:, D:, E:,...)
This machine is about 4 years old, not brand new, and it is my computer.
