So last week a coworker approached me and asked me if I would be interested in getting her husbands car running that has been sitting in the garage for a few years. He is in the milatary and is deployed for the next few months and she wants to get it running and registered as a surprise for him. I asked her what kind of car it is and she said its a Mazda rx7 but her husband put a new motor In It at some point other than that she didn't know much more about it. I'm thinking great a Wankle motor with bad whipper seals. I'm not sure if I want to dig into this project but I told her I would stop by and take a look. Yesterday I stopped by her house and to there was a dusty Mazda in the garage. I popped the hood and my eyes about popped out because the engine he replaced was a LS V-8 with aftermarket heads. Of coarse the battery was dead so I couldn't try to start it but she did say it ran at one time, they just couldn't register it because they tried to register it here in California. She said she was going to be able to register it in Texas because they are milatary and she has family down there. I can't wait to get a hot battery in this thing and see if it cranks up! I will post pictures next time I go over there to work on it!

Never seen an Rx7 with a Ls V8 installed before. That sound very interesting indeed!
Look forward to the photos! How long has it sat for? Fresh fuel, new battery, and who knows maybe with some encouragement, it will fire right up..!!

That would be nice but newer stuff doesn't ever like sitting . doesn't seem like it will be that easy

That doesn't seem easy at all. I got a car running that sat for 34 years, but I got lucky that old engine started right up with fresh fuel and a battery.

old cars only have a few wires to get mouse chewed and corroded, one coil to corrode instead of 8, they dont have a picky computer to fight, etc...

True.

I think my GTP might be done for. Looking at potential replacements already. I heard a ticking/knocking sound. I took the belts off in this video.

Tomorrow I'm going to pull the rocker covers, and see what is up. If it is the top end I think I can fix it. If it is the lower end I think I will put this car down.

I'm going to Florida this coming week. I may come home with another GTP they are cheap and rust free down there. Or I looked at a new Fusion with a 6 speed manual and I really liked it. I liked the Titanium model even more. So that is something to think about.

That does not sound good, but let'* hope it'* just the top end. ..
Maybe best to do some wet & dry compression readings.
